Sarah’s CBD Kitchen: Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Ahhh, winter. When the weather is temperamental, the mornings are cold, and we’re all looking for a steaming cup of hot chocolate to melt away the winter blues! Enter CBD. Combined with a delicious, homemade peppermint hot cocoa, it provides just the ticket to keep your stress low, and stop Jack Frost from nipping at your nose!

I absolutely love the effects CBD has on me. However, I don’t necessarily love the flavor of it. That’s why I’ve decided to take this powerhouse of a “special ingredient” to the kitchen and see what tasty treats I can come up with! I wanted to do a Hot Cocoa because it reminds me of growing up with frigid New England winters. We would sled outside all day, make snowmen, and pelt the neighborhood kids with snow balls. After our faces were red, and toes were frozen, we would come home to my Mama standing over the stove, carefully stirring a saucepan of delectable hot cocoa. From scratch. Which really, is not as labor intensive as one might think! Peppermint adds an extra punch of flavor, and is reminiscent of holidays with the family, even after the tree is long gone.

Ingredients:

For Hot Chocolate

1 ½ cups heavy cream

1 ½ cups milk

¼ cup sugar

3 drops of peppermint extract

Pinch of salt

4oz bittersweet bakers chocolate, broken into pieces

6 Droppers of MedPac 300mg Chocolate Mint Flavor

For Garnish

½ cup whipping cream

1tbsp sugar

½ tsp vanilla extract

60mg CBD Isolate

Chocolate Shavings

Directions: Before producing the hot chocolate, prepare the garnish. In a cold, metal bowl (you can place the bowl into the freezer for 10-15 minutes to get it cold), add the whipping cream, vanilla extract, sugar, and CBD Isolate. Whip with a hand mixture or cold metal whisk, just until it reaches stiff peaks. Set aside in fridge.

In a medium saucepan, over low-medium heat, combine milk, cream, sugar, and salt. Stir well. Once mixture begins to steam, add the broken chocolate pieces, and stir constantly until melted. Stir in peppermint oil, and MedPac 300mg Chocolate Mint. Combine well. Divide the hot chocolate into 4 mugs. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish. Be sure to eat it all up to get as much of the CBD as possible. Plus, it’s delicious, so you’re going to want to eat it all! Stay warm and stress free this winter!

CBD & Workouts: New Year Resolutions

Yup, I’m overweight. Not obese, at least not yet, but definitely overweight. So like a few billion others, I keep telling myself, “I can lose the weight if I really wanted to, or if I really tried”. I’ve been putting it off for years and now my health is at risk. It’s interesting (in a terrifying, looming threat sort of way) how much weight control problems affect the whole system. Headaches, blood pressure, breathing, chest pains, heartburns, back pain; and that’s just for me. I hear horror stories, most from my doom loving doctor, about how failure to control my weight can destroy my body. Not speaking figuratively people, but literally.

So, like probably a billion other people this year, I have made a New Year’s resolution to get to my desired weight by the end of 2019. But, unlike the other billion, I’ve got something quite unique to help me, CBD.

I started working at Green Garden Gold six months ago, and I’ve learned a lot about CBD. It’s truly amazing for pain relief and hundreds of other issues. Working as the Web Master here at Green Garden Gold, I read hundreds of stories from customers and dozens of reviews each month that motivate me in a way no other job has.

CBD’s applications in the nutraceutical and fitness arena are equally impressive.

A CBD Supported Workout

Working out is an important part of successful weight control efforts. For those that are overweight like me, we have to lose the extra weight through diet and exercise until we get to the weight we desire, and then we can maintain that weight with less exercise and a controlled diet.

Workouts are hard, especially when you haven’t done any for a long time. After that first one hour workout you feel its effects for many days. It’s hard to get motivated to keep to a workout when you are always in pain for days after. That’s where CBD can help. It’s widely supported by testing and studies that CBD helps with inflammation and cellular regeneration. In a word – healing.

Most people have never been to a photo shoot for those muscular and tone fitness models we all desire to look like. If you had, you would’ve noticed weights lying around that aren’t in the photo. The weights are there because the models all do a quick workout right before their photo shoot. Why? It’s because every workout causes microscopic damage to the body’s muscles and tissues, which causes inflammation. Those gorgeous swelling muscles you see in the photos are in fact swollen. It’s this inflammation that triggers the body’s repair processes, allowing tissues to grow back stronger and leaner. It also, obviously, makes your muscles look fantastic.

When you next workout, you will feel that “tightness” around your muscles. Your body is attempting to repair the muscles you just over worked, expending energy and hopefully burning unwanted fat in the process. CBD helps this healing process, by speeding it up. The sooner the muscles heal, the quicker the effects of your workout are felt and seen. Incorporating CBD into your workout recovery can greatly impact your efforts.

The alternative is one we are much more familiar with; sore muscles for days and slow heal times. Trying to force through the pain can also cause too much inflammation and can contribute to excessive muscle damage and poor workout results.

What CBD is the Best Fit to Get Me Fit?

Green Garden Gold has a line of products that help with weight control. Ketones+ is one of these products and specializes in driving the human body into nutritional ketosis. What this means is your body shifts to using fatty acids and ketones as the primary source of fuel instead of carbs and glucose. This allows you to take advantage of all the health benefits of nutritional ketosis; increased mental and physical energy, and a shift in the body’s use of fat as fuel. This means that even if you are not working out, you are essentially burning the fat on your body more effectively. For the first time you can use something without all the unhealthy side effects of diet pills and the like, because the ingredients of Ketones+ are natural, Dairy/Lactose Free, Gluten Free, and Vegan.

Ketones+ also adds CBD into the product, so your muscles and tendons recover from torn and swollen muscles more quickly. You also have the added wellness that CBD provides, making you feel more energetic and healthy.

The IT department here at Green Garden Gold has decided to join together and use our own products for our weight control goals for 2019. We will be having a sale this New Year’s Eve weekend to help everyone else too! This weekend only we will be giving 40% off our Ketones+ and MCT Power+!

Support from close friends or family is also a key factor to success, so get someone to join you! Good luck to all of us!

Preparing Delicious Food With CBD

CBD has been the all the rage lately – we give it to our pets, our kids, and ourselves to solve a myriad of different issues, and it seems to be the cream of the crop (the hemp crop, that is).

It’s also the next Superfood. Move over, Açaí and avocado! CBD is here to stay. CBD comes from Hemp (and Marijuana, but that’s a whole other subject, that I’ll get to another day), and Hemp seeds are already widely regarded as a popular superfood due to their damn near perfect balance of nutrients. Seriously, these things are LOADED with Omega 3 and 6, iron, vitamin E, and amino acids. CBD is also derived from hemp, and is a heavyweight champion when it comes to health benefits. However, CBD either has little to no taste (isolate), or a very earthy (oil) taste, which many find undesirable, or slightly bitter. So, you either have a flavorless powder, or an earthy tincture for options when it comes to ingesting the cannabinoid. Enter CBD as a food additive.

Cafes, bars, restaurants, and even hotels (we’re looking at you, Manhattan) have been picking up on CBD as an herbalicious addition to food, smoothies, sauce, drinks and more! Who doesn’t want to spruce up a smoothie with CBD? Or better yet, spruce up their CBD by adding it to a yummy dessert? The possibilities are endless! However, there are definitely some best practices/guidelines to follow.

Do not put CBD over direct heat. I know I said the idea was “cooking” with CBD, but actually cooking the CBD over direct heat with your food is a literal recipe for disaster. CBD is not inexpensive, and if you put it into direct heat and cook it, you are going to cook the efficacy and terpenes right out of it (CBD begins to evaporate at temperatures higher than 320 – 350°F, approximately). Not to mention, if you cook with the CBD oil directly on heat, it will intensify that bitter, earthy flavor and make your kitchen smell like the inside of Cheech and Chong’s Volkswagen. Stick with adding it to sauces at the end, stirring it into coffee or tea after cooling, smoothies, juices, dressings, garnishment for soups, etc.

Eat it all up. Sauces and garnishes are a fantastic way to incorporate CBD into your food, because they are added at the end of cooking. However, if you are trying to hit a certain dose, make sure you eat ALL of the sauce. For example, if you add 60mg to a batch of sauce for 4 people, pay attention to your portion sizes. You will want each portion to be them same to ensure everyone gets 15mg. Now would be the time to listen to your Momma and clean that plate!

Use carriers, or beneficial fats in conjunction with your CBD wherever possible. Healthy saturated fats like MCT Oil help your body with the absorption of nutrients and CBD. Try infusing it into butter or ghee, or use a tincture where the CBD is already infused with MCT oil. Bulletproof coffee, anyone? You can also use spirits such as rum, whiskey, or vodka as a carrier. Who doesn’t want to wind down with a CBD Jack n’ Coke after work?

Use care when selecting which type of CBD to incorporate. Personally, I try to go for full spectrum products whenever possible. However, as I mentioned above, they do have quite the earthy flavor. Use full spectrum for things like green smoothies, pesto, dressings, sauces etc. If you’re going for something with a more delicate flavor, like a CBD infused whipped cream, you will probably want to use an isolate so as not to overpower the taste.

Cooking with CBD is a great way to get the cannibinoid into your system, or to trick your kids into taking their daily dose (don’t worry, we won’t blow your secret). If you follow the guidelines above, you’ll be cooking up some recipes of your own in no time! Bon Appétit!

If you’ve found some fun ways of incorporating CBD into your diet, let us know! We may even feature your recipe on our blog.

Vaping CBD: Its Value & Avoiding Health Risks

The CBD vaping industry has grown incredibly huge in just the last few years, and is predicted to continue to grow by 35% each year through 2020. If you are currently taking CBD oil sublingually, or utilizing CBD oil capsules, you may be wondering what all the hype is about. The primary reason for the popularity of CBD vaping is the method’s level of efficacy. Michelle Peace, a vaping expert and toxicologist at Virginia Commonwealth University, explained that whenever someone inhales CBD as opposed to digesting it, the efficiency in which the CBD gets into the system and becomes active is dramatically increased. This fact helps explain the thousands of user reports that the dosage strength of CBD is felt several times more significantly through vaping then other methods.

Along with its popularity, there is a growing worry concerning the safety of vaping CBD. Is it safe? What are the side effects? Why are some people getting sick form long term vaping? This article will answer such questions and other concerns that current or potential vape users may have.

The Pen Is Mightier Then The Sword

The most significant cause of side effects and the greatest risks to health concerning vaping are not the contents of the vaporizers, but the vaporizers themselves. Vaporizers, or vape pens, if manufactured cheaply or with the wrong components can leech dangerous metals and compounds during their use. After considerable research, I have compiled this list of tips that will help you avoid most of the unhealthy aspects of side effects caused by poorly constructed vaping devices.

• Check vendor’s composition tests – knowing what the vaporizer is made of is the first step. If the vendor cannot provide that, then I suggest you stay clear of their products, even if the price is incredible and it looks super mint. Third party or independent testing laboratory reports are the most dependable results.

• Avoid Teflon – Teflon when heated can leech toxic chemicals that have scary side effects. Don’t buy vaporizers, vape pens, or eRigs that have Teflon.

• Don’t be cheap, don’t buy for look – Vaporizers that are sold cheap are likely to have impure metals or cheap components that contribute to unhealthy side effects when heated for long durations. Don’t just buy a vaporizer because it looks cool and is sold cheap. Quality products require quality parts, and that will cost more.

• Go titanium, not alloy but pure – Many manufacturers may claim to use titanium for the wax pen coil in their vaporizers but actually it’s a poorer grade or some titanium alloy. You want grade 1 or grade 2 titanium. It’s more expensive, but so is poor health. A good way to spot the fakes are their battery source; most pure titanium vaporizers will only work with sub-ohm batteries because of their low resistance. If a vendor claims to use grade 1 or 2 titanium but still uses a normal e-cigarette battery, be cautious as that is unlikely.

• Use Green Garden Gold’s CBD Oil – It may seem self serving, but we put enormous expense into research and development when making our CBD Oils. There are so many CBD oils out there that are not only unhealthy for use, but dangerous. For example: many CBD oils still use PG(Propylene Glycol) & PEG(Polyethylene Glycol). These have both been linked to possibly damaging respiratory organs and aggravating asthma. Green Garden Gold – We use VG and MCT as carriers for our CBD Oils. The MCT is definitely the golden rule, as it has tested to be an incredible carrier agent for CBD. VG(vegetable glycerin) is for a more fun experience with thicker vaping clouds and a sweeter flavor.

The Bottom Line

Vaping is only problematic if you don’t put care into your preparation. Get the right equipment, get the right oil. For getting the right equipment I personally like to discuss with experts and specialists. Why should your health be handled by anyone else? Online, vendors who sell multiple types of equipment are usually more knowledgeable, and some use an online chat system so you can discuss your questions and concerns with them. Find a site like that and within seconds you can be chatting online with a vape expert and they go out of their way to give you all the information you need.

CBD Legalization Hemp Farming Act of 2018 Fully Legalizes Hemp & CBD

In late June, the Senate passed a version of the 2018 Farm Bill, which includes the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, that could federally legalize industrial hemp nationwide if seen to the finish — legislation that has been an ongoing project of one of the most powerful men in America, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The bill contains provisions that will make hemp into a legal commodity crop. In fact, hemp cultivators will even be eligible for crop insurance.

For the first time in over 80 years, this bill legalizes hemp in all forms nationwide, including CBD oils. Before being classified as a narcotic in 1937 and later a Schedule 1 controlled substance in 1970 due to lack of knowledge besides its association with cannabis plant, hemp was a commodity widely grown in the U.S. for a variety of different uses. With the passing of this bill, combined with today’s technology and advancements in industrial manufacturing, we can expect the global market for hemp products to consist of over 25,000 different varieties — many of which will be created and used for the benefits of the plant’s CBD oils.

The federal government’s decision to legalize hemp is part of a longer, more comprehensive process that stretches back to when President Obama first signed the 2014 Farm Bill. The 2014 Farm Bill created a pilot research program permitting state departments of agriculture and universities to grow and research hemp plants.

However, due to the previous federal regulation of the crop, it was extremely difficult to go about this cultivation during the pilot period. Farmers that were seeking to participate in the hemp cultivation program had to first obtain a waiver from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the number of acres in which a farmer could legally plant hemp were severely limited. This meant that while hemp-based products were not illegal to purchase by consumers, only specific groups had legal permission to cultivate hemp and had to go through a multitude of hoops in order to do so.

With the progression of the new bill being pushed forward by Senate Majority Leader McConnell, if passed, all forms of hemp will be unscheduled and excluded from its legal association with marijuana, provided the THC content is below 0.3 percent. This means that hemp would be able to be grown freely in any area of the country in the same manner as other crops, which will lead to exponentially rapid growth in the hemp and CBD oil industries that have already been progressively rising.

So, What Happens Next?

A joint committee comprised of representatives from both the house and senate will be established. The goal of this “conference” is to find a compromise, and a new version must be established for the bill to continue. Once a compromise is found, the bill goes back to vote. Senator McConnell is in a prime position to advocate for its inclusion in the joint bill, scheduled to be heard in both chambers for finalization by Sept. 30, 2018, as this is when the previous Farm Bill expires. Assuming this version of the bill passes both the house and senate, President Trump will likely sign this bill into law.
